DIABETES ESSAY AND POEM COMPETITION 2009

Lily 26/06 8 Diabetes Doesn't....

Diabetes doesn’t stop me playing tennis,
Or swimming in the deep blue sea,
Or trampolining in my garden,
Or inviting all my friends round for tea.

Diabetes doesn’t stop me doing homework,
Or doing lots of jobs when mummy asks.
I still have to do my piano practice-
There is no end to my list of tasks

Sometimes it makes me feel a little different
And sometimes pricks and pokes make me feel sad,
And when it’s time for yet another blood test
Diabetes sometimes drives me mad!

When I’m high I’m often rather thirsty -
With a jab and a drink of water I’m on track.
When I’m low I’m often rather shaky -
So I have a glucose tablet and a snack.

My family think I’m really rather special
And I think that I am special too.
Diabetes doesn’t stop me doing anything,
And that is really really really really TRUE!
