DIABETES ESSAY AND POEM COMPETITION 2009

Beth 15/06 11 Hypo

I wake up suddenly in the middle of the night
My finger’s shaking and I don’t feel right
My legs feel like jelly
I’ve got an ache in my belly.

I think I’m having a hypo
That means my levels low
Make sure my fingers clean
‘Beep’ goes my machine.

My blood sugars 3.3
My mum gets some dextrose for me
I have a chewee bar
Now I feel better by far.

10 minutes later I’m 6.4
I don’t feel shaky anymore
Just then my machine goes ‘beep’
Next thing I know I’m fast asleep.
