DIABETES ESSAY AND POEM COMPETITION 2009

Amelia 16/05 17 The key to our success

Living your life in constant fear, it shouldn't be this way,
each challenge we face, we face head on each day.
The injections seem drab, the blood sugars a chore,
What would we do if we didn't remember 'four is the floor'?
Those shaky legs and giddiness to us are important signs,
they warn us diabetics it's hypo kit time.
Clock watching and control is the key to our success,
but remember don't eat sweeties or chocolates too much in excess.
Cakes seem tempting, the odd ice cream a needed treat,
but only consume a small amount after you eat.
The insulin replaces what we cannot make,
so be grateful it's around for all our sake!
All joking aside diabetes is worrying and scary,
but we'll be healthy if we just remain wary.
