DIABETES ESSAY AND POEM COMPETITION 2009

Eden 15/05 12 The Same but Different

I have diabetes
I’ve had it since I was nine
I do miss the chocolate
But apart from that I’m fine

I do lots of exercising
Like dancing and ice skating
It keeps my blood sugar nice and low
But above the four mark rating

In the tree years I’ve had diabetes
My life’s been very different
Like now I don’t eat lots of rubbish
I got healthier in an instant

Diabetes hasn’t restricted me
In any kind of way
Like last year I went on a ski trip
Throwing myself down mountains all day

Although some things are different in me
I’m still the same in most ways
I still have the same personality
I just have to inject insulin each day
