DIABETES ESSAY AND POEM COMPETITION 2009

Sophie 04/04 7 My Diabetes Story

I was diagnosed when I was 2 and a half . I can’t really remember everything but I am going to tell you some of the things I can remember. Most of the food that I ate in the hospital came on a Thomas the Tank Engine train!

My mum used to do my injections but I do them now. Because, I go to drama and in the Easter holidays we were going to see Fame and I really wanted to go but my mum said “I might not be able to go, so why don’t you try and do your injection that one day?” I was nervous at first but then I plucked up the courage and one morning I decided to do my own injection. I did it in my leg but it didn’t hurt. My dad watched me do it. When I had done it I felt extremely proud of myself. Now I do injections I feel much more confident about controlling my diabetes.

DON’T LET DIABETES BEAT YOU!

And that was my diabetes story.
