DIABETES ESSAY AND POEM COMPETITION 2009

Jessica 18/03 8 Daisy the Diabetic Fairy

Abi Dyer was staying over at Emily Brown’s house. Abi and Emily had a BIG secret, they were friends with the fairies. They were looking for the hospital fairies. They had already found Nadia the nurse fairy and Molly the manager fairy and today they needed to find Daisy the diabetic fairy. Her insulin pump has been STOLEN by Jack Frost’s servants, the goblins, because Jack Frost is not well and he thought that if the insulin pump made Daisy feel ok then it might make him feel ok, so Jack Frost ordered his goblins to go and steal Daisy’s pump. Now Daisy is not feeling very well at all. Jack Frost is feeling even worse and wondered where the goblins were.

Nadia the nurse fairy flew to Queen Flutterbye and said

“ Flutterbye, Daisy’s pump has been stolen by those mean goblins. I have heard Daisy say that she doesn’t feel very well so I’ll live with Daisy and help her with her injections until she has her pump back.”

“Oh thank you for telling me”, replied Queen Flutterbye

“That’s ok” said Nadia.

Nadia and Daisy flew to the human world following the goblins but unfortunately they got stuck inside a trophy at Trotlinge School. They were stuck in there for about 4 hour’s.

“Go Emily go” Abi Dyer shouted as Emily Brown was head to head with a girl called Samantha . They were nearly at the end of a school cross country run. With a quick sprint Emily raced ahead and crosses the finishing line.

“Yay” Abi shouted over the loud speaker saying “Emily wins” over and over again.

Trotlinge year 4 pupils strode into the upper hall . Abi sat next to the trophy for the person that wins the most events.

“Now everyone please may I have your attention, okay, today our winner that won the most events is …….. EMILY BROWN “ the announcer said.

“Huh” Emily gasped.

There was a loud round of applause. Mrs Knight (who was Emily’s teacher) said ‘here we are Emily’, as she handed the trophy to Emily.

As Emily walked out she saw glitter pour out of the lid, the glitter was yellow and blue. Emily opened the lid and flying about inside was Nadia and Daisy.

‘Oh’, Emily gasped ‘stay in the trophy until I open the lid’.

Emily met Abi in the corridor. ‘Nadia and Daisy are in my trophy.’ Emily whispered into Abi’s ear.

‘Ok let’s go to the year 4 corridor’ Emily said. ‘Yes,’ Abi replied.

Abi and Emily hurried to the year 4 corridor and it was empty. Abi watched as Emily opened the lid and Nadia and Daisy flew out of the trophy.
‘Hello again Nadia, hello Daisy’, Abi whispered in case there were goblins about.
“Daisy thought her insulin pump was here somewhere so we flew in to the hall where you were sitting and then we got stuck in the trophy’ explained Nadia.
‘Oh so that’s how you got stuck in the trophy’ Abi and Emily said together.

‘Yes yes yes’ Daisy said. ‘So what are we waiting for, LET’S GO’. ‘Yes let’s go and find my pump.’

As they walked out of the year 4 corridor and wandered along a different corridor, Abi saw a big green foot run around the corner.

‘Look’ Abi shouted. Nadia, Daisy and Emily saw the green foot as well. ‘Follow the foot’ they all shouted together. Daisy turned Abi into a fairy and Nadia turned Emily into a fairy. ‘Thanks’ Emily and Abi said together.

They flew after the big green foot. They saw the goblin rushing into the cloakroom. ‘oh no, how are we going to find the goblin in all these coats’ Emily said in dismay, but then Emily saw some green toes sticking out from under a coat.

‘Look’ Emily whispered to Nadia, Abi and Daisy.
‘I’ve got an idea,’ Daisy said ‘why don’t we tickle the goblin, how about Abi and Emily tickle the goblin and me and Nadia catch it?’

‘Yes great idea’ they all answered

So Abi and Emily tickled the goblin. The pump immediately came free. Emily thought that they must have given the goblin a fright. As Daisy caught the pump, it shrank to fairy size. Nadia plugged it back on to Daisy.

‘Thanks girls’, Daisy and Nadia said together. Daisy suddenly felt so much better now she had her insulin pump back. In a puff of glitter the fairies went back to fairyland and Abi and Emily changed back to human size and went back to their class.

As for Jack Frost he was not diabetic anyway so did not need the insulin and he got better eventually to cause more fun and trouble for the fairies.
