DIABETES ESSAY AND POEM COMPETITION 2009

Georgia 09/03 12 Diabetes And Me

At first i thought i was very sick,
until my nurse showed me my fingerprick.
She said i was fine i would be ok,
as long as i injected everyday.
My friends and family were told,
about my food, insulin, and how to treat a cold.
My nurse then told me that hyper and hypo,
meant my blood sugars were too high or too low.
When i left the hospital i visited Spain,
the weather was fab but my sugars a pain!
We asked for advice they said one month or two,
til my diabetes had settled and i finally knew.
Now four years have passed with its ups and its downs,
with plenty of smiles and not many frowns.
I eat very healthy - though i should anyway,
just what we all should eat everyday.
If i ever need help i can go anywhere,
from my mum to the hospital - there's knowledge everywhere.
Im a very normal girl but my pancreas has stopped,
nothing else is broken and my smiles - definitely not!
