DIABETES ESSAY AND POEM COMPETITION 2009

Abbygayle 14/02 10 MY DIABETES

My Diabetes is a pain in the butt
It goes UP when I want it down and
DOWN when it needs to be up.

When I feel stuffed I have to eat
When I am STARVING I can't
The worst thing of all is when I'm not allowed to eat sweets
My poor sister cannot have any either.

I've had lots of help, because my Dad has it too
When it first came I was upset
Nobody wanted me to visit because they were all a bit scared
I was scared of coming into school, because nobody knew
Nobody knew what to do.
But now it is easier, everyone knows what to do
I can do my own shots and injections
So I can go to play at my friends too

Nobody knows just how it feels for me, not even my Dad
Because everybody's Diabetes is different
Talking about it, and not keeping it hidden helps
It helps having a snack at sometimes.
And now my Dad takes more care of himself
and so for that I am GLAD.

My Diabetes is a pain in the Butt
But it is hard for my Diabetes too
It gets confused like I do at times
We both have to understand each other
Learn to work together
I'm not going to let it rule my life
My life is still going to be nice.

The End
