My feelings on my brothers diabetes
text

It started off when Charlie my 13 year old brother started drinking lots of water. This was not at all like him because Charlie and I didn't drink much but today Charlie was drinking loads. My mummy took Charlie to the G.P and they found out that Charlie was diabetic. This was not good news and the doctor that had been with Charlie said he had to go to hospital. Back at the house where Emma my big sister was babysitting me (Sarah) and Jo but Thomas and my Daddy could look after themselves. When the rest of us had heard the bad news we were worried because we thought that nothing this bad would ever happened but one of the worst things was that Charlie quite liked sweets. Charlie and my mummy had been there for a long time we came and visited them I really enjoyed seeing Charlie. We had made him cards and made stuff for him. When I gave him my little present I was very upset, the book that I had made for him, with my big sister Emma helping me, had its pages all muddled up there was one page of one story and another from one other story. Charlie was very kind and didn't mind much. When they got back to our house I was very pleased to see Charlie. It wasn't very nice for Charlie or us. When a person called Irene came over I liked it because I like talking but my sister Joanna didn't like it she stayed out of the room. I like learning about diabetes but felt really sorry for Charlie. Over the past few weeks I have learned when Charlie is either high, perfect, nearly perfect, low or hypo. One good thing is the thing which Charlie liked a lot is wild life. It had not affected the fact that he has always liked it. Little birds and squirrels have helped him through bad moods. My mummy has been making tummy charts and on them it says: at school, mood, date, tummy ache, sleep, what I used, how long for, try anything else, comments'. He writes in the squares so we know what the day before was like. I have been talking a lot about diabetes and my feelings about it.

A few weeks ago my Daddy took Charlie to a hypnotherapist he told Charlie how to make blood tests not hurt and the same with injections. I was very pleased Charlie is quite pleased especially when we play football and he gets hurt he can make it numb.

Now he has been diabetic for just over a year . I have learnt many things such as why he's crazy and why he doesn't concentrate. I like learning things so there's happy times and sad times. My brother Charlie has got a lot better but sometimes he slips back down into the dumps. I prefer him when he's hyper (as in mood not sugar level) but sometimes he's too hyper.

When I visited Charlie I can remember putting things that I'd found on his bed neatly into his drawers. When he was sad I would put pictures on his door. One of my favourites was a short story about a hungry cat. Sometimes Charlie would get so frustrated that he would start saying that he didn't want to live. But now that it is a year later he's much better. Now I am a lot happier for Charlie because he doesn't get as bothered if he's high or low.
