A Day in The Life of a Diabetic.
text

This is an average school day for me.

At 7:30 am I get up and test my blood sugars, my mum or dad makes my breakfast whist I do my insulin. I have 16 units of Novomix 30. After my breakfast I go and get ready for school. At 8 o'clock I rush out the door and go to the bus stop.

At school, I have my first 2 classes and then the bell rings for interval. I walk down to the canteen, put my bag on one of the tables then take my monitor out. While testing some people look or ask what I'm doing, I never mind. Once I've seen what my bloods are I buy an apple walk out of the canteen and meet my friends. After break I have 2 more classes then it is lunch time. Today my friends and I walk out of school and go to the high street, though sometimes we play football. I get a pie from the bakery and a drink from the newsagents. I always carry a sandwich just in case though. After lunch there are 2 more classes then school ends.

When I get home I do my bloods again, have an afternoon snack and rush out the door to do 1.5 hours of tennis training. After tennis I come home and have dinner; with my dinner I have 6 units of Novorapid and recheck my bloods. After dinner I head of to Scouts. I am at Scouts for 2 hours and often get back later than 9:30pm. Tonight we built go-carts which I might be driving in a competition in a few weeks. I enjoy Scouts because they are always doing different things and we get the opportunity to go on camps. When I come home from Scouts I do my bloods again and have 6½ units of Insulutard.

I have found since I was diagnosed with diabetes not much has changed. I still do all the things I used to and I can still do them as well as I used to. The only real difference is the injections and blood monitoring but they only take a fraction of my time. In all diabetes has barely changed my life at all.
