It's a long life problem for me ..
text

Hi! My name is Anieka I am thirteen years old And I have type 1 Diabetes. I was diagnosed with diabetes on12 December In 2007 .Having diabetes affects me and the people around me in many ways. I have four blood test and two injections a day .It might not sound difficult but it is, when my b.p (blood pressure) is really high I go for a walk to control it so my b.p is between 4-12mmol. But if it goes low I take three loucazed tablets then something else that is sweet because loucazed keeps your sugar up for a bit then brings it back down again. so when I go to bed I always have some food beside my bed just in case of a hypo in the night type 1 diabetes is apart of me now and I wished it never been .

It all started when my family and my friends kept and saying to me you're so pale and skinny and my mum realized I hade been drinking a lot of water and going to the toilet a lot .I got ready for school and came down and my mum said to me your no going school you've got a doctors appointment so I the doc checked my urine she was mumbling oh my god, then sat in her chair and said to my mum your daughters got type 1 diabetes after that.

They made use wait in the waiting room my mum was in tears I was confused I didn't now what was going on because my doctor told other doctors and they all were wiz zing around the room with a file in their hands. Then they told me to go to B.R.I hospital ward 17 strait away.

They made me take a blood test, urine test they measured my high and my weight then they took me to the bed I was going to sleep in for the night but they kept me for a week for more test and explain what diabetes it is and After two or three days at the hospital a dietition came to see me and was telling me what i can and can`t eat and other things about food (carbohydrates, sugar salt fibre, and protein) she gave me a tap top and a c-d about diabetes and food after playing with that and getting information I understood what type of food I am meant to eat .That day was really busy because so many nurse and doctors came to see me and give information on diabetes they gave magazines ,leaflets and little story book explaining why your pancreas doesn't work , what are the symptoms of having diabetes and how you and your nurse can help to control your b.p but type 1diabetes is like cancer something you can't cur but keep a live with medication or some kind of therapy.

now every three months I go for a check up if my b.p is high they decrease the units /and if it's low the increase the units. In my school their only four people with diabetes and I'm The youngest diabetic person in my school, my friends think I'm so lucky that I've got Diabetes because I get to leave class early for my blood test, and I leave the class when I have a hypo! Yeh! It's not always fun because last year in year seven I hade assembly but I couldn't go because I had to my blood test and in assemble they were telling children what to bring.

And on the next day I had a trip I got ready for I went to school and the teacher said you can't go because you don't have a coat I burst in tears then she said didn't you listen in the assemble I replied no because I went to do a blood test then mrs.Hannam came and took me in to her office and sat me down .few minutes later mrs.Lume came in and mrs.Hannam told mrs.Lume what hade happen then she ran to the car park and got her rain coat out of the car and ran back in to the school and gave me her rain coat then she took me to the coach we were just in time before the coach left I was still in tears ...

I forgot to mention when I was at the hospital a male nurse came and said were not going to let you miss school so he gave me loads of maths work to do I only did three or two pages he left me with the work . And went to see his other patient that though they could get away with school work! Because they were in hospital.

My parents say you can't eat that eat that I get really angry but I know they do if for my health. When I get up set I think why me?

The nurse at the hospital gave me a pricking fingers set and a pen, sharps bin, to take home. The nurse came to my house to see how I was getting on since I left the hospital.

There are loads of websites to go to about diabetes they really help you understand about your condition. diabetes really doesn't have to be a problem just talk to your doctor /nurse if you have any questions. my general opinion towards the condition is that it's a load of pain. if I don't treat it. it bring plenty more problems.

Having diabetes doesn't mean you can't do things you want to do there's still a hole world to discover so many adventurers to go to. High levels of glucose in your blood over a long time can cause problems with your eyes, kidneys, heart, nerves, blood circulation, legs and feet taking insulin will help you avoid things like this.

When I have hypo I feel hungry have wobbly legs and look pale& I also feel sleepy.

Diabetes changed my life but now I am in control of my diabetes and it feels as if I never had diabetes in the first place.
