Still busy!
text

I like ballet, basketball, gymnastics, hockey, quick cricket, swimming and running so I'm always busy.

A few months ago, I went running with my friend, I'm quite good at running and normally finish somewhere around half way down the field. That day, I came nearly last. I felt tired but proud that I had finished the race but a bit puzzled that I had not done any better.

I was really looking forward to the summer holiday. My Granddad was poorly in hospital so Mum, Dad, my brothers and me just went away for a weekend because we were worried about him. I was a very tired and a bit worried because I did not feel very well either.

We came home from our holiday and it was time to go back to school. I started getting eczema on my hands and got some ointment for them that made them much better then one day I fainted at school. Mum and Dad came to pick me up. They were upset that I wasn't very well and that Granddad had died earlier that morning. After Granddad's funeral everyone thought I would start to feel better but I didn't. I was always thirsty and I felt as if my throat was dried up all the time.

In the October half term holiday I went on a holiday with my family and friends and still felt really poorly so when we came home, Mum and Dad took me to the Doctors. Everyone wondered if I was still upset about Granddad but they decided to check for sugar. So I went home and did a urine test. Mum took my sample back to the Doctors and later that afternoon they asked me to come back and to do another urine test.

The doctor checked my sample and told me that she thought I was diabetic. She said that I had to go to the hospital as soon as possible. Mum and Me went to hospital and my other Granddad came to help. The doctors and nurses were all very nice people and told me not to worry because they would help me to sort myself out.

I was in hospital for a week and a day. In the first few days I had all sorts of pipes going in to me. One was for giving me glucose and another was a monitor but they were soon out. In the last few days I was learning how to test my own blood and give myself injections. All my family and friends let me test their blood so I could get some practise. I made the lancet a bit too long when I tested my brother's blood and he squealed. Sorting out how many units of insulin to have it was tricky but I soon got the hang of it. At last the Doctors said I was coping really well they were going to discharge me I felt nervous because I was leaving the people who had made me better. When I got home I felt fine. All my friends and family have been superb to me whilst I've had diabetes. The Staff at my school are really helpful so I don't worry about being diabetic. My dad always tries to fool me whilst he's doing my injections so that I don't feel the needle going in.

It's over six months since I was diagnosed with diabetes. I sometimes feel a bit sad that I've got it and can't understand why it has to be me but I feel fine and am always busy!!
