Diets-Dilemmas-Diabetes!
text

I'm Chatty, Confident and Crazy, yes that's me Hannah! And if you stood me in a line with 1 million other people, you wouldn't know that I had diabetes! Some people talk about the condition like it's a bad thing but it made my life a whole lot better! You probably think this is crazy like I've just said but it's far from it....keep reading..!

My life changed when I was four (yes, for the better!). I've had diabetes now for eight years and my life gets easier every day! I can hear you asking yourself why? Well I'll explain.

I sometimes feel sad about my diabetes. I get upset but then I realise. what's there to be upset about? I go to parties like everyone else, listen to the same music and have the same hobbies! My diabetes doesn't get in the way of any of these. One point I would like to make, is that the longer you live with it the easier it gets. So don't give up keep trying there are advantages!

Diets.
Although you may not think it, but the Diabetic diet isn't hard at all. For instance because you can't have heaps of sugar, you wont get tooth decay and fillings! We all know that sugar is a demon for our teeth and waistlines too! Basically, a diet for diabetics is a normal, healthy balanced diet. I personally think the Diabetic diet is great and that everyone should go on it as they would all benefit from it heaps!

Dilemmas.
"Oh no! I'm going to Lucy's party and I can't eat anything there!"
Does this sound familiar? This is often a common problem for us diabetics. Forward planning is the answer. I always go prepared with a box of goodies that I can eat while everyone else is eating party food. I find this great as you don't have to worry about what you eat!

"Mum, Dad where shall I do my insulin?"
This problem has occurred so many times whilst out with my Parents/Friends. I always used to get embarrassed injecting in public. But to be honest no one is actually bothered or even notices, so don't worry you'll be fine!

"My blood sugars are too high!"
The worst thing to do in this situation is panic; this just makes matters worse. This is a great excuse to run round the house like a complete loony just like I did when my blood sugar was 30.0 ml, exercise is the key to a high blood sugar! Always remember to check for keytones and fast acting insulin is fab to treat this problem. This is one of the down sides of diabetes, it's very worrying but as I think it can always be worked out!

Diabetes.
Eight years on and me and diabetes are doing just fine! The tantrums and tears have stopped and I have become a better person. Diabetes has changed my life for the better although it's not been a smooth ride my parents and diabetic team have always supported and understood me! The injections and the blood sugars don't really bother me anymore and it gets easier as you get older. I'm part of a drama school and have performed in many shows. My diabetes hasn't stopped me and it never will! I'm still the chatty, confident and crazy little kid I was at four!

I control the Diabetes - It doesn't control me!
