Diabetes Essay.
text

My mum started to wander what was wrong with me because I was drinking lots and passing on a lot of urine. My mum tried to get me to the doctors as soon as possible. The day I got to the doctors surgery I didn't want the doctor to call my name because I get shy and embarrased when the doctor did call my name I didn't want to go in but it was important to find out what was the matter with me. When I got into the room I sat down and waited for a it to be my turn to speak to the doctor, because it was my baby brother jacks turn first to see the doctor when the doctor told me I had diabetes I didn't mind because I thought it would go away, I was wrong it will never go away the doctors told me I would have to stay in hospital for a few days. I was excited to sleep in the hospital as I have never been to hospital before. When I got to hospital I was sent to medical room and was asked a lot of questions but I am sure they were for a good reason after the questions were asked the nu! rses told me to lie down on a squashy bed and they put a tube in my hand, I cried a little bit because it hurt a bit. We were waiting for a bed for ages and I started to get tired as soon as I got my bed I went straight to sleep. I was in the hospital from Thurs to next Tuesday I was hoping to get out sooner but I'm sure they kept me in for that long for a reason.

In the time I was in hospital I learnt a lot about having diabetes like what food to eat and what to drink and what to do if I have a hypo or my sugars are too high. People at the hospital and my diabetes nurses like Michelle and everyone else really helped me to understand my diabetes and how to work my pen's and bm's I am really grateful!! I was on fistral's children unit and I had lots of fun on that unit, if I had to go into hospital again while I am a child I'd love to go back onto fistral, my favourite nurse on fistral was Naomi, she was really nice to me and she was willing to answer any questions I'd ask her. I loved it on fistral.

The food that every living person eats is made into energy which our body's need to work properly. This is made in our cells. The cells in your body are so incredibly small you need microscope eyes to see them.

There is something in your body called insulin, insulin takes the sugar that you eat and what your body produces out of your blood into your cells so they can work properly. If you are diabetic type 1 you do not have any insulin in you so it has to be injected into, so your cells get the right amount of sugar it needs to work properly. You can't have insulin any other way other than an injection because if you take tablets or liquid your stomach will eat it before it has time to work.

There are four places where you can inject yourself, in your bum, arms, legs and tummy, if you are not careful when you inject yourself you will get a bruise. If you are going to do some sports and your sugar level is just right you can have a fun size mars bar because you will burn off the sugar from the mars bar and your sugar level will stay at a good level.
