Diabetes, insulin and me.
text

I was living a normal life going to school, coming home going to rainbows {club}.Until that one day five years ago. My mum took me to the doctors and they said I had type one diabetes. So I went to the hospital they kept me in for one or two weeks. The nurses showed me, my mum and my dad how to do an injection with an orange. They told me never to inject the insulin in to anyone else or they would die. It changed my life when I heard I was diabetic with all the injections and only sweets one day a week or if I was feeling low. When I went back to school I was nervous because no one had it so I felt left out. But then when my best friend heard about it she asked what it was because we were only five. I told her what it was and she said she didn't notice so it would be fine. So then in primary four I moved schools me and my sister went to a school called Ballymena primary. I was very lucky because I was in the class of another diabetic. My life was still normal but there were hardly any sweets and there were injections. I never really feel low in school but everyone at my table said I am so lucky I get to eat in class but this boy once sat beside me and didn't know I had diabetes so he said that you weren't allowed to eat in class but then my friend explained it to him and he understood. When I have a birthday party my friends look away when I'm doing my injection. Sometimes I feel like it would just go away but sometimes I feel like it is best for me. Diabetes has helped me to be a better person and has made me eat a lot more healthily. It was really sore when I first got my injection and was sore for a few months but I got used to after a while. One thing I have learned from diabetes is you need to eat a good diet and you need exercise to try and be healthy. Every three months I go for a check up to see how I am, if your blood sugar levels are higher than normal you would go in for your next check up in two months. If you're a diabetic don't let that stop you from doing a lot of sport, all it me! ans is you should take a snack before you go out to do your activity to stop you from getting low. Another vital point in diabetes is if you have high sugar levels it can make you more irritable. If there was one thing to point out to a diabetic this is what I would say is no matter what people say having diabetes makes you no different from someone without diabetes.
