Well here I am sitting on the table, waiting for Katie to come and get me. Katie's my owner she's 9 years old and I am her Stupid smelly horrible hideous evil dumb blood sugar machine, well that's what she calls me anyway. Her Mum, Amy, calls me a very clever kind considerate blood sugar machine, I prefer that name! Ah her Mum has come and got me she's taking me up stairs to Katie's room, I haven't seen Katie in a while, well I hope she's not ill! Katie's lying in bed cuddling her bear Ruby. She doesn't look well and her mum is doing her blood sugar 7.7 that's brilliant for Katie her blood sugars are normally around 15 to 18! Amy looks confussed I wonder why? She's checking Katie's ketones but I don't understand, why is she doing Katie's ketones she's got an excellent blood sugar Im sure her ketones will be 0.0! Oh well umm maybe not she's 2.3 that's high for ketones! Now im really confussed how can she have such a good blood sugar but have bad ketones? This isn't normal something is wrong with Katie, her blood sugar is good but her ketones are hig! h and also she's not complaining when her mum is using me so much, she's normally screaming and Shouting and not letting her mum do her blood sugar and if her mum tells her to do it herself she'll throw me down the stairs, she'll even bite me to see if I will brake or she'll hide me somewhere!

I am surprised Katie's blood sugar is so good I see her all the time sneaking into the biscuit box and eating chocolate biscuits or taking one of her sisters chocolate bars that she buys her self for school! Amy is doing Katie's blood sugar again and Katie still isn't complaining! This time is 10.8 its getting higher her mum is doing her blood sugar every 15 minutes!

Quarter to three-25.5!

Wow that's high what's going on? Amy is checking her ketones again there 3.3 that's not good for ketones! .........Ewe oh no She's just been sick All over her bed! Katie's mum is ringing her diabetic nurse to see what to do, she tells Amy to make sure Katie drinks plenty of water and eats a little bit and continues to take her insulin as normal but if she keeps on being sick to come up to the hospital, but poor Katie cant keep anything down not even water. Katie's sister and mum is packing some pajamas and toothbrushes and spare insulin but I am not being put in the bag I am staying out I think that's to do some more blood sugars! Katie doesn't look as is if she know's what's going on and she seems to be a bit spaced out. Amy is carrying Katie out to the car with me on Katie's lap; Katie is very pale and looks really unwell. I think we are on the way to the hospital! I wonder what will happen there? I hope nothing bad is going to happen to Katie while were there!

We are at the hospital now it was a hard journey for me I was used every 5 seconds well that's what it felt like! Katie's blood sugar was going higher and higher each time it was so weird I've never seen anything like it before, I've never been used so much in such a little time before! Katie's been sick again she's really unwell, she's being taken into a room I think the nurse called it H.D.U I hope that stands for Happy Dancing unit! Oh what's happening now? They are pumping water into her using these huge things that look a bit like massive needles now they've put her on a drip I think that's what it's called. Katie still doesn't seem to know what's going on!

We've been here for about half a day now and I've been used so many times! Her blood sugars are still quite high but are coming down. Katie looks as if she knows a bit more about what's happening now, she seems to know where she is. I think she's a little bit better now but not much she still doesn't mind using me so much and she's still very pale.

We've been in hospital for about 3 days now and I am tired out by being used so much! I bet Katie's fingers are hurting too! Katie is much better now! She's chatty and smiley and she's complaining again about using me, even though I don't like her calling me names I am happy that she's better now! I over heard her telling her mum that she's really happy that she's better she didn't like feeling ill she said, she felt all sick and her head was hurting and she was all confussed about where she was and what was going on. Katie cant remember much about what had happened but she did remember having load's of water pumped into her through those massive things that looked like needles, I think her mum said they were called syringes Katie said they really hurt but she was so tired and felt so ill she couldn't get the strength to say anything now I know she was really ill Katie normally tells you everything she's a real chatter box! I'm also glad that we will be able to go home soo! n I am starting to feel a bit sick myself I don't like the smell of this hospital and I am very tired! Oh and did I tell you That H.D.U doesn't stand for Happy Dancing unit! It stands for High Dependency unit! I prefer my name how about you?

Oh I think we are going home now Katie's getting changed and Amy is packing up the pajamas and wash bag .Oh I am not needed as much any more I am being put into the bag with the insulin and spare strips, well I am quite happy to be going in the bag I can go for a sleep! No more blood sugars for a while! Well not until we get to the house that is! I am going for a sleep while I can.
