DIABETES ESSAY AND POEM COMPETITION 2010

Kirstie 28/06 13 The journey begins.

Weak and small sitting in the surgery chair,
waiting to be called out next by the woman with bright blond hair,
Your name is called, your up next,
scared what to think about the news that they read from the text.
Leaving the surgery, on the way to the hospital with a worried mother beside,
Thinking of what decisions are now to decide.

Leaving the hospital with plenty of equipment beside,
thinking of how to let the news out, what will everyone think of me now?
Thinking of what in your life will change and how.
But then again, plenty of support around, closer to family and friends more than ever now,

The journey continues,
ups and downs all the time,
as everyone helps with the endless climb.
Trips and treats with family and friends,
lots of fun and smiles over bridges and around bends,
Life is still enjoyable, plenty of freedom and spirit,
as long as healthy and fit, you’ll fight it.

It grows and grows,
different inventions and ideas,
asking and hoping please and please.
The pump!
The pump!
The magnificent invention was finally created, very creative and clever,
I thought and though, of how it would change my life and it was my pleasure.

The life of a diabetic is much better than was thought,
living life spectacularly, but still having to be taught.
