DIABETES ESSAY AND POEM COMPETITION 2010

Ellie 22/05 13 Life's not much different.

My friend is no different to me,
But she has to do her insulin before tea.
My family couldn't tell,
It’s not like its hell.
It's really not a disease,
You can't catch it by a sneeze.
Nobody understands,
Every one tries to help by giving her a hand.
But all she wants’ is peace,
Everyone pulls at her clothes and makes them crease.
Her blood goes up and down like a flying disc,
Just because she has a broken pancreas.
I’m sure she would prefer to be the same,
But life just isn't a game.
I’m sure her life isn't a breeze,
Even though she doesn’t like cheese.
I don't know what being diabetic is like,
All i know is the jabs like a mosquito bite.
Ever since we've been friends,
Her life hasn't gone to an end.
She was sure she was going to die,
But yet she’s never said bye.
